Steyr Arms

Your Guide to Steyr Firearms

Steyr Arms is a firearms manufacturer based in Austria. The company has a long history dating back to 1864, when Josef Werndl founded the company that became Steyr Arms. In 1884, Werndl partnered with Ferdinand Mannlicher, who had designed an advanced repeating rifle. Together, they developed the M 85 battle rifle and the M 86 hunting rifle with repeating-action designs. They later added the M 90 and M 95, and the huge production numbers made Steyr into the world's largest firearm manufacturer by 1891.

After over 150 years of innovation, Steyr Arms still focuses on its basic tenets: innovation, precision, reliability and safety. They maintain a strong presence in the firearms industry, and the brand is used by over 50 militaries around the world.

Steyr AUG

Perhaps the firearm that Steyr is best known for is the AUG, which stands for Armee-Universal-Gewehr, or “universal army rifle.” This iconic bullpup rifle was introduced by Steyr in 1977 and was quickly adopted by the Austrian army. The AUG is still in production today, and has been used by the armies of more than 24 countries.

The Steyr AUG is available for civilian use as the Steyr AUG A3 M1. This version of the rifle has an adjustable gas piston operation, and is semi-automatic, chambered for 5.56x45mm or .223 Remington ammunition. It can hold 10-, 30- or 42-round magazines. The NATO stock accepts AR magazines. The AUG A3 M1 is just 28.15 inches long including its 16-inch heavy barrel, making it easy to maneuver without sacrificing power.

One of the key qualities of the M1 version of the rifle is its configurability. It features optic-mounting options including a short Picatinny rail, long Picatinny rail, integrated 1.5x optic or integrated 3x optic. All the rails and optics are interchangeable simply by using the base screws to take the pieces on or off. To further customize your M1, the rifle is available in a variety of colors including black, green, mud or white. GunPrime is the ideal place to search for a Steyr AUG for sale, as you’ll be able to find many versions of this configurable rifle.

Steyr SSG

The Steyr SSG was the world’s first commercially available long-range tactical rifle, with the SSG 69 introduced in 1969. The SSG 69 served as the Austrian Army’s standard issue sniper rifle and was used by over 25 other countries. Steyr ended production of the SSG 69 in 2015.

The Steyr SSG versions currently available are the SSG 04, the SSG 08, and the SSG M1. The SSG 04 is a precision rifle designed with the competitive shooter or long-range hunter in mind. It comes standard with a muzzle break to reduce recoil, an adjustable cheek piece, and a recoil pad. It is an accurate and reliable rifle, making it a top choice for law enforcement. The SSG 04 is available in a caliber choice of .308 Winchester, which holds 8 rounds, or .300 Winchester Magnum, which holds 10 rounds.

The SSG 08 takes riflery to the next level. It is a high-precision, high-performance rifle that was designed to the specifications of Austria’s EKO COBRA anti-terrorism unit. The rifle features an aluminum folding stock, adjustable spine, Picatinny rails, and a bipod to help users deliver accurate shots. It is available in several calibers, including .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .338 Lapua Magnum.

The SSG M1 is a configurable, multi-function sniper rifle with features not found anywhere other than Steyr. Made for military and law enforcement, this rifle is designed to meet the most demanding mission requirements. It features a built-in Picatinny optical base, fluted bolt, and dust cover. The barrel exchange system allows users to switch barrels and calibers with ease. The pistol grip comes with interchangeable back straps and it can be replaced with most AR-15 pattern grips. For transport and storage, it features a right-side folding stock capability. The SSG M1 is available in .308 Winchester with a 20” or 25” barrel and .338 Lapua Magnum with a 27.2” barrel.

Steyr HS .50

The Steyr HS .50/.460 brings you the next level of long-range shooting, with an effective range of nearly 1,650 yards or 1,500 meters. The cold-hammer-forged free-floating barrel provides consistent accuracy with either .460 rounds with a 33” barrel or .50 BMG rounds with either a 24” or 33” barrel. The HS .50-M1 model features a five-round side-loading magazine and a quick-to-assemble weapon platform, allowing the user to rapidly deploy and break down the rifle. It also features a barrel-mounted scope.

Steyr Hunting Rifles

Steyr manufactures a wide range of hunting rifles made for any need. Their top rifles are the Steyr Zephyr II, the Steyr Scout, and the Steyr MONOBLOC. The Steyr Zephyr II is a redesign of the original Zephyr rifle, which was developed in 1955. The Zephyr II is a lightweight bolt-action rifle weighing only 5.8 pounds. It has won several awards, including the 2019 American Hunter’s Golden Bullseye for “Rifle of the Year.” It features a classic European walnut stock, a detachable 5-round box magazine, and is available in .17 HMR, .22 Long Rifle, and .22 WMR calibers.

The Steyr Scout is a versatile rifle, ready for hunting in any environment or for target practice. Its fold-away integrated bipod makes set-up quick. Its light weight of 6.6 pounds and integrated spare magazine make this rifle convenient and easy to transport and carry. Choose from a variety of colors, including green, black, white, mud, Mossy Oak® Bottomland®, and Mossy Oak® Break-Up Country®.

The Steyr MONOBLOC is named for its construction where the barrel and housing are made from one piece of steel. The result is precise accuracy that is tough and reliable. The stock is synthetic with accented leather inlays for a unique, elegant look. Caliber is a .308 Winchester or .30-06 Springfield, and the rifle comes in many colors, including, Sand-Brown, Coolgray-Sand, Green-Brown, Green-Black, Black-Black, and Mocca-Sand.

Steyr Pistols

The Steyr M9-A1 pistol was introduced in 2004 as an improved version of Steyr’s original pistol, the M9. This hammerless, striker-fired pistol features a very high grip profile that reduces muzzle rise and makes it more comfortable to shoot. The M9-A1 is a petite 6.9 inches long and weighs 1.68 pounds, providing easy handling in tight situations.

In 2019, the company released the Steyr A2 MF pistol. Built around a modular frame, this pistol is capable of multiple configurations. Users can swap between several grip modules and slide assembly options, resulting in a personalized pistol. The A2 maintains the high grip angle and low bore axis of the A1 for comfort and recoil mitigation. Trapezoid sights come standard on the A2 MF. This 9mm caliber pistol measures 7.9 inches and weighs 1.7 pounds empty.
