Description
This Smith & Wesson Military & Police revolver is an early World War II Pre-Victory British Service model, manufactured shortly before Smith & Wesson introduced the V-prefix serial-number series. Serial number 939597 places production in early 1942, likely during March or April.
Chambered in .38 S&W, it features a 5-inch barrel, six-round cylinder, fixed sights, double-action/single-action operation, smooth wood stocks and a military lanyard loop. The top strap is marked “United States Property,” identifying it as a wartime government-contract revolver likely supplied to Britain or another Commonwealth nation through Lend-Lease.
The revolver was later returned to the United States through Vega of Sacramento, California, whose import mark is visible on the frame. It remains in good military-surplus condition with finish wear, scratches, patina and handling marks consistent with its age and service history.
