Description

Steyr produced Dutch Mannlicher in 6.5x53mm rimmed. This one is the so-called "Number 5" carbine, which was produced from the Dutch stock of long guns for the Dutch forces in World War Two. Older patterns of Dutch Mannlichers like this one (with a 1900 marked receiver!) were fitted with new short barrels or had their original barrels cut down, given shortened handguards and new bayonet lugs, and had their sling swivels moved to fit the new shortened pattern. This one is in very nice shape. Numbers do not match across the rifle which is fairly common for these guns as they saw a lot of arsenal work. Bolt components match each other but do not match the receiver and barrel, which match each other. Floorplate does not match either one. Mechanical function is very nice with an excellent smooth bolt throw. Bore is quite clean with very strong rifling. Metal surfaces show some light patina in places but have no serious rust or pitting. Wood is very nice with a few small dings from service but intact finish and no major gouge or dents. These are fairly rare and very cool rifles from an often forgotten part of the war.
