Description

Colt Single Action Army "Sheriff's Model" in good condition. 1882 production date. Known to collectors as "Sheriff's Models" or "Storekeeper's Models," these short-barrel single actions (usually 3 1/2") are as desireable as the are scarce. Made by grinding or milling away the ejector housing on a standard SAA frame, this one was made from a "second style" black powder frame. While shipping letters for revolvers numbered over 77000 have been found to confirm they left Colt's factory in this shortened configuration, this revolver is very slightly under 77000 and as such is somewhat more difficult to authoritatively authenticate. Condition is good. Bluing remains at about 70% condition. Cylinder shows slightly worse with a little bit of light pitting. Frame retains fading case colors that are moving towards a brown-gray patina. Grips show chips at toe and have been heavily sanded. Action is sound and barrel retains strong rifling. This isn't quite the "holy grail" of Single Action Armys, but it's certainly on its way there - if a "normal" 140 year old Colt just won't cut it, this is likely the revolver for you.
